Yu. A. KURNOSOV. Social and Class Shifts in the Ukrainian SSR and Demographic Problems of Developed Socialism

The article analyses connections between the social and class shifts and the demographic structure of the UkSSR through revealing, on the one hand, the impact exerted by demographic: processes on the nature and dynamics of the republic's social and class composition and through probing into the changes that have taken place and are taking place with in the working class, the collective farm peasantry and the people's intelligentsia and democraphic groups comprising them, on the other. The author has identified the ge-general regularities, the common features of the country- wide social development and the specificities of the social and class development and demographic processes in the Ukraine.

V. G. TRUKHANOVSKY, Corresponding Member of the USSR Academy of Sciences. The British Nuclear Policy (1979 - 1984)

The author takes as his subject the nuclear policy of the Conservative Party and comes to the conclusion that together with the United States Britain is actively involved in nuclear arms race and plays an important role in the deployment of US new nuclear missiles in Western Europe. He gives his assessement of the White Books for a number of years and also of British-US cooperation on nuclear rearmament and within NATO. Anti-Sovietism remains the political message of the British nuclear policy. The author has also allotted some space to an upsurge, in the early 1980s, of the movement for peace and nuclear disarmament.

S. M. MENSHIKOV. Stages of the Inter-Imperialist Struggle: Past and Present

The author has centred his attention of the factors which affect considerably the correlation between the centrifugal and centripetal tendencies within the imperialist camp and between the two groups of contradictions: those within the imperialist camp and between the two systems at different periods. The contradiction between the two systems is more acute in its socio-historical and class content. However, concrete historical developments at times aggravate the competition and contradictions between the imptrialist powers. Objectively, such situation promotes rapprochment of states belonging to two different systems which counterpose clams of most aggressive imperialist powers for world domination with concerted actions.
